Alice Marie Sorenson
Alice Marie Sorenson
August 21st, 1932 – March 7th, 2025
*Author’s Note: The following excerpts in our “Life Stories” are from the Celebration of Life service for Alice Marie Sorenson for you to read, reflect, and pay your respects privately. Alice’s immediate family gathered for a private committal ceremony at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park where Alice was laid to rest. Then, loved ones gathered at Fireside for a celebration of life banquet and memorial service. It was an honor to customize such a special experience for this family as they paid tribute to a beautiful life. Alice’s favorite saying was, “Keep the Faith.” She handmade dozens of crafty crosses and signed each one with her signature saying and her name. These treasured keepsakes were a touching sentiment for all in attendance. Alice’s voice made a special guest appearance with a pre-recorded message that touched every heart in the room. Alice will be dearly missed by many.

Alice now gets to rest, but truly she rests beyond this ground in the hands of our Lord in heaven. She is home. Her favorite saying was, “Keep the faith!” May you always keep the faith that while Alice is at rest, her loving presence and precious memories will be with you always.

We gather here today with broken hearts because Alice is no longer a physical presence in our lives. We have a powerful sense of loss. Where we are experiencing her loss- a missing piece- Alice is experiencing completeness- wholeness. May you know in your hearts that Alice’s journey is complete, she is home now in the loving embrace of our Lord in heaven. She is reunited with the many loved ones he had been missing, including her parents, Joseph and Ethel, her grandparents, her husband, Lyle, her daughter, Neely, her brothers, Joseph, Donald, and Gerald, her sisters, Doris, Marcella, and Betty, her son-in-law, Dr. Milton Bergal, and many other dear family members and friends. She is surrounded by love.
And while the broken pieces of your heart will never quite be the same, know that Alice would not want your heart to be troubled. May you find comfort in sweet memories, may you find peace in the ways you find her to still be a part of your present, and may you find hope in being reunited with her some day in the kingdom of God.

Alice made a special impact on this world.
She was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin on August 21st, 1932. She attended Kenosha schools and enjoyed time with her siblings. Alice did some seasonal work on a local farm, and she fell in love with the farmer’s son, Lyle. On December 17th, 1949, at 17-years-old, Alice married Lyle Sorenson and proudly became a farmer’s wife. Alice and Lyle operated their farm in Kenosha County and welcomed 4 daughters into the world. Alice became a fantastic cook and baker, learning most of her homestead culinary skills from her mother-in-law. Life on the farm meant having a solid work ethic. Alice could be found in the field at 6:00 in the morning pulling cabbage or late at night still tending to chores. Looking back, life on the farm was hard but also absolutely wonderful. Alice especially loved hosting family picnics on the farm. Family meant everything to her, and those times were the best.
For almost two decades, Alice and Lyle embraced life on the farm until Lyle’s untimely passing in 1967, while Alice was expecting their fourth child. She then moved from the farm back into the city to continue to raise her family. Alice worked hard to provide for her children, waitressing and doing other side jobs. Daughter Loretta recalls mom bringing her with to the diner so that she could wash dishes while mom waited tables. When the time came that her grandchildren needed her, Alice was happy to help, and she moved to Indiana to live with her daughter and watch the grandkids. Eventually, three of Alice’s children lived in Indiana, and she was surrounded by family, which made her tremendously happy. A Packer fan at heart, Alice even proudly wore her green and gold in Indiana.
Alice loved fishing. She took all her kids and grandkids fishing. Those were special times! She loved cats, especially her sweet cat, Missy. Alice was very creative and enjoyed crafting. She opened a craft business with her daughter, Vicki, called Picture This. For 36 years, Alice operated Picture This. It was a huge part of her life that brought great memories for the entire family. Over the years, all the kids participated in the many craft fairs and events. Alice’s handmade goods are still cherished in countless homes!
Alice spent a few years in a nursing home where she was very well liked and kept tabs on everyone. She was given the title of Vice President of Residents, which she happily embraced. She loved the responsibility and involvement.
Alice experienced a lot since 1932: tremendous joy and life-altering challenges, true love and devastating loss. Through it all she remained in good spirits giving all the praise to God. Alice attended Christian Heritage Worship Center Church where she was saved in 2018.
In happy moments, Praise God. In difficult moments, Seek God. In quiet moments, Worship God. In painful moments, Trust God. In every moment, Thank God.

It does feel like Alice’s 92 years went by way too quickly. While no length of time with our loved ones will ever seem long enough, know that it was an absolute blessing to have had Alice present on this earth for over 9 decades. Her time here and her time spent with each of you was a precious gift. When your world is feeling a little too empty, may you fill it with gratitude that your time here overlapped with Alice’s and that you were blessed to know her.
I invite you to share the memories, share the love today and in the days and years to come so that Alice’s precious legacy may endure. Embrace and share with others her qualities that you love and miss so much. Spend time with your family, make something crafty, play some Bingo, cheer on the Packers, and remember Alice.

Alice will be forever loved and missed by her children, Loretta, Linda, and Vicki and her sons-in-law, 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many other dear family members and friends.

Alice, may you rest in eternal peace knowing you are dearly loved.
My sincere condolences and love, Holly
