*Author’s Note: The following excerpts in our “Life Stories” are from the Celebration of Life service for Cindy Porras for you to read, reflect, and pay your respects privately. It was an honor to learn about Cindy and to be entrusted to help her loved ones celebrate her beautiful life. Cindy’s sister-in-law, Claudia, shared touching sentiments, and special songs were played. It was a moving tribute to a wonderful lady, and she will be dearly missed by many.

Born on December 5th, 1957, in Long Beach, California, Cindy lived a beautiful life full of love and warmth.
Cindy enjoyed her childhood with winter vacations in Big Bear at her parents’ cabin and trips to Disneyland, Lake Tahoe, and the beaches of sunny California. She loved roller skating and being with her family.
In the 1970s, with the help of a cousin, Cindy met Chris. Friendship grew into true love, and shortly after, Cindy proposed to Chris. On August 1st, 1987, they united in marriage in Las Vegas.
Cindy and Chris welcomed two kids into the world, Holly and Nick, and loved growing their precious family. Cindy enjoyed her career in customer service, and in 1998, they followed other family members and made the move to Illinois.
Cindy adored becoming Grandma and thought it was the best thing ever. She was the kindest soul. She was patient, generous, smart, and always willing to help anybody.
She loved her garden, especially the hydrangeas, and had fun decorating with flowers. She loved to read, cook, bake, and shop for antiques-especially with daughter Holly. She loved dogs and spending time with her family. She had a wonderful laugh and a great smile.
Some of the best moments for Cindy were just sitting on the deck with Chris, watching the hummingbirds, and enjoying some margaritas.
Cindy was remarkably strong, and she courageously battled a long and difficult illness without complaint. She was a rock, a role model, and the glue that kept her family steady and centered.

As we reflect on Cindy’s 68 years, it may feel like it all went by far too quickly. While no length of time with our loved ones will ever seem long enough, know that it was an absolute blessing to have had Cindy present on this earth for over 6 decades. Her time here and her time spent with each of you was a precious gift. When your world feels a little too empty, may you fill it with gratitude that your time here overlapped with Cindy’s and that you were blessed to know her.
The truth is, missing someone we love lasts for always. While the broken pieces of your heart will never quite be the same, know that Cindy would not want your heart to be troubled. She would want you to embrace your life, live each day, soak up all the precious time that you are given…and be gratefully aware that every moment is a blessing.
Mother Theresa said, “I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.”
In Cindy’s name, go forth with full and happy hearts. May you find comfort in sweet memories, may you find peace in the ways you find her to still be a part of your present, and may you find hope in being reunited with her some day in the kingdom of God.

May you know in your heart that she is at peace, she is home now in the loving embrace of our Lord in heaven. She is reunited with the many loved ones who have gone before her that she had been missing, especially her parents Rex and Adrian. She is surrounded by love.

Cindy will be forever loved and missed by her devoted husband of 39 years Chris, her daughter Holly and her son Nick and their families, 3 grandchildren, her brothers Gary and Larry and their families, and many other dear family members and friends.
Whether you picture her whipping up a delicious meal in the kitchen or snuggled up with a good book surrounded by dogs or joyfully tending to her garden with hummingbirds fluttering around, know that Cindy zestfully used all her precious time, and she is at peace.

Cindy, may you rest in eternal peace knowing you are dearly loved.
My sincere condolences and love, Holly
